PRACTICAL THEOLOGY
CHRISTIAN COUNSELING
CC 101 Introduction to Christian Counseling (4 units)
This course is designed to provide students with an overview of Biblical counseling and is meant to equip the student with basic skills. The course will deal with a Biblical basis for counseling, integration of psychology and theology, counseling needs, methods of counseling, and theories of personality.
CC 102 Introduction to Christian Counseling - Part 2 (4 units)
This course is designed to provide students with an overview of Biblical counseling and is meant to equip the student with basic skills. The course will deal with a Biblical basis for counseling, integration of psychology and theology, counseling needs, methods of counseling, and theories of personality.
CC 103 Marriage and Family Issues of Christian counseling (4 units)
This course is designed to continue the study of relationships within the family structure. It is meant to provide the non-professional and lay counselor with an understanding of family dynamics and skills necessary to effectively counsel others within the church setting.
CC 104 Pre-Marital Counseling (4 units)
An effective program of pre-marital counseling will be presented. This course is particularly designed for pastors and pastoral candidates.
CC 105 Marital Counseling I (4 units)
This course will provide a clear systematic approach to helping those in the ministry to assist couples to restore and rebuild their marital relationships.
CC 106 Marital Counseling II (4 units)
This course provides a biblical basis for effective, short term counseling that focuses on behavior and thoughts and emphasizes the positive. It will also include detailed analysis of the causes of marital breakdowns.
CC 107 Counseling the Youth I (4 units)
The course will begin with reasons for the syndrome effect of confusion, lack of purpose and meaning, frustration, guilt, escape, sex problems, drugs, identity problems, and the many effects of sin. The Biblical answers to these problems will be given. Techniques of crisis counseling will be studied along with long-term directional Christian Biblical disciplinary counseling.
CC 108 Counseling the Youth II (4 units)
This course will build on CC 107 and will offer the student in-depth work in dealing with issues of today's youth. Guest lecturers will be provided upon an availability basis.
CC 109 Counseling Women (4 units)
The Biblical role of the single woman, wife and mother will be discussed along with the priorities of the Godly woman. Special emphasis will be given to equip the student for counseling women on the problems of life's various stages.  
CC 110 Counseling Men (4 units)
The Biblical role of the single man, husband and father will be discussed. The Biblical position on homosexuality will be examined. Special emphasis will be given to the Biblical view of man's responsibilities for providing leadership in the home.
CC 111 Emotions and the Christian (4 units)
Students will recognize and deal with depression, anger, fear, guilt, and anxiety in personal and ministerial experience. The student will better understand the correlation between emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being, and learn how to experience more joy in life.
CC 700 Independent Study (1-4 units)
Directed reading and research under supervision of a professor to meet the needs and interest of the student.
 
MINISTERIAL PRACTICA
MP 120 Creative Bible Study (4 units)
This course will acquaint the student with various methods and tools for meaningful Bible study. The practical application of the methods and tools are examined. Ministers and teachers and all who desire to study the Bible systematically will appreciate the study.
MP 130 Homiletics (4 units)
This course introduces the student to the theory of preaching. Using both biblical and contemporary models, sermon components will be isolated and analyzed.
MP 135 How to Prepare Sermons (4 units)
This course will acquaint the student with various methods and tools for meaningful sermon preparation, and there practical application. Ministers, teachers, and all who wish to prepare sermons, and study the Bible systematically will appreciate this course.
MP 136 How to Prepare Sermons – Part 2 (4 units)
This course will acquaint the student with various methods and tools for meaningful sermon preparation, and there practical application. Ministers, teachers, and all who wish to prepare sermons, and study the Bible systematically will appreciate this course.
MP 140 Hermeneutics (4 units)
An appreciation of the science and practice of Biblical Interpretation by studying the general principles which apply to all of Holy Scripture and the specific guidelines inherent in certain kinds of Biblical material.
MP 141 Hermeneutics – Part 2 (4 units)
An appreciation of the science and practice of Biblical Interpretation by studying the general principles which apply to all of Holy Scripture and the specific guidelines inherent in certain kinds of Biblical material.
MP 145 Biblical Hermeneutics For Preaching (4 units)
The study of the science of Biblical Interpretation together with a study of various principles essential to consistent Biblical exposition.
MP 150 Principles of Christian Leadership (4 units)
This is a practical study of the principles essential for effective Christian Leadership. This course examines the Christian Leader in various situations, and how to respond according to the Word of God. This is a must class for all with a call to ministry.
MP 200 The Ministry Gifts (4 units)
The Biblical examination of the Divine call of God on a person, the qualifications for ministry, being prepared and equipped for the ministry offices of Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, and Pastor-Teachers.
MP 201 The Ministry Gifts - Part 2 (4 units)
The Biblical examination of the Divine call of God on a person, the qualifications for ministry, being prepared and equipped for the ministry offices of Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, and Pastor-Teachers.
MP 300 Career Practicum (4-8 units)
An internship program designed to provide practical experience in the area of ministry for which the student is preparing. The student will be involved part time for a twelve-month period under the supervision of an approved minister.
MP 350 Special Topics in Practical Theology (1-4 units)
Offered upon sufficient demand.
MP 400 The Making of a Christian Leader (4 units)
Dynamic and effective leadership is the key to growth and success in any organization. This course is designed to help the Christian leader get a clearer picture of what he wants to DO and BE in a church or organization and HOW to get there.
MP 405 Pastoral Leadership and Church Management (4 units)
A study of church management from a systems analysis perspective designed to assist students in establishing a Church program, organizing a financial system, and developing a leadership structure utilizing time management.
 
ADMINISTRATION
AD 401 Church Administration (4 units)
The administrative aspects of the organization and operation of the local church are evaluated. Departmental structure and financial operations will be discussed.
AD 402 Parliamentary Law (4 units)
This course examines the principles of parliamentary procedure. Basic concepts of organization are also considered. Those who are responsible for planning and conducting various church business sessions will find this study especially beneficial.
AD 403 Relational Theology (4 units)
An examination of the way God's rule in one's own life causes positive changes in relationships in boards, committees, study groups and staffs.
AD 405 Conflict Management and Change Agency (4 units)
A course prepares the student to introduce change in the easiest possible way, learning to establish priorities sensibly and manage in the most profitable manner whenever conflicts arise.
AD 700 Independent Study (1-4 units)
Directed research/reading under supervision of a professor to meet the needs and interest of the student.
